GGGI Fishing Gear Best Practice Workshop - Nairobi

The Global Ghost Gear Initiative, in collaboration with World Animal Protection and the UK Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs, will be putting on a workshop on best practices for the management of fishing gear in Nairobi on November 29th, 2018 immediately following the Sustainable Blue Economy Conference.

The main objectives of the workshop are to:

* Raise awareness of the need for better fishing gear management to prevent the creation of ALDFG and thus to reduce its subsequent impacts, including ghost fishing, environmental damage and socio-economic losses.

* Enhance dialogue and regional cooperation between participating countries for the eradicating ALDFG.

* Support participating countries to integrate relevant components of the BPF into their Fisheries Management Plans and National Action Plans through sharing of globally relevant case studies and peer networking.
