Trinidad and Tobago Joins the GGGI

Trinidad and Tobago has signed on as an official member of the Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI). Trinidad and Tobago joins 21 other national governments as a member of the initiative and is the second Caribbean island nation member alongside Montserrat.

“We are proud to welcome Trinidad and Tobago to the GGGI. We look forward to working closely together to help eliminate ghost gear in the Caribbean and help ensure the sustainability of their local fishing industry upon which so many Trinidadians and Tobagonians rely,”

- Joel Baziuk, GGGI Associate Director

Trinidad and Tobago joined the GGGI soon after the GGGI signed an historic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) earlier this year, whereby both parties agreed to address ALDFG in the Caribbean region. As a GGGI member, Trinidad and Tobago will work closely with the GGGI and regional bodies on setting ambitious national and regional targets on recycling and End Producer Responsibility (EPR).

The other 21 members of the GGGI include Belgium, Canada, Dominican Republic, Germany, Iceland, Mexico, Montserrat, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Palau, Panama, Samoa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Tonga, Tuvalu, United Kingdom, United States, and Vanuatu.
